Planning for Japan!

Up early on a Sunday morning to do some planning for our trip to Japan in October. As with last year, we’re going to split our time between two very different places: Tokyo and Kyoto.

Right now, we’re reserving hotels – which can be the trickiest part – and prioritising where we’ll spend our time. Knowing that so far, we’ve only scratched the surface of all there is to see and do in these beautiful cities. And while reading the reviews and looking at the photos, I’m reliving some of the best experiences of our last few visits to Japan.

Food, people, sights and sounds. Japan is both overwhelming and relaxing at the same time. I can honestly say I’ve never felt so at ease and so safe in any major city in the world. And I’m not alone. The latest issue of Monocle ranks the world’s cities in terms of how liveable they are – unsurprisingly, Tokyo comes out on top.

Though I’m conflicted. I’m worried that the more it becomes common knowledge how easy it is to visit and experience Japan, the more likely it is that Japan may lose some of the magic that makes it so special. Yes – that’s a definite “white whine”. And unlikely to materialise any time soon.

Something amazing to look forward to once the British winter sets in…
